Count me Horrified. Can the Times retract, even, the question?

Writhe Safely This is what they wanted, evident, by age eight, the people perpetrating on me attack my body, and it hurts but I can ignore that since what they’re after is my mind, my soul, my freedom, pleasure, my sense of ease and security, my pride, my delight. I’ll tell you how I knew this: My actions had no impact on them. Their treatment of me was inner directed, random, their demands of me non-specific or inconsistent, they didn’t want me to do anything better, didn’t want me to be good, to improve, to behave … It wasn’t about that. I’m still learning, it wasn’t about me. Their only goal was the complete breaking down of personality. They needed me to think and feel and become something else, something ugly, corrosive and corrupt, a mirror. They wanted to watch this version of me take form, they wanted to be the ones who caused the transformation and wanted to be known by me as the ones who caused it. Read the rest of this entry »

“Prepare yourself to qualify for good work, treat work seriously, and don’t put yourself in a position of unequal resources when you marry.”
Don’t put yourself in a position of unequal resources when you marry?

Lawyer David Roth told reporters in Florida that Foley was intoxicated when he sent lewd electronic messages to former House pages but was always sober when conducting official business during his 12 years in Congress. Roth said he could not explain new reports of an exchange in which Foley appeared to be having Internet sex with a youth while participating in a House roll-call vote.
Blind terror? Plain stupidity? The least imaginative lying-filth lawyer in Washington?
All of the above?
Seldom does a story come out so devoid of the credible yet so churning of the stomach—what the hell am I saying, anyone who plays that fast and loose with his Congressional responsibilities fairly begs to be dismissed. Getting off on the internet while a vote is being taken. What a statesman. What a guy.

So says the New York Times, on … jesus, was it yesterday? That can’t be right?
Tectonic plates shifted, musta been weeks ago. Which speaks to the whole concept here.
Ain’t no small thing. The idea there exists in natures any lever with which to pry Cheney from his seat. I’ll leave you to think about what seat.
But what I think is, Whoa—A strike for Democracy!
What I think is, The battle for Democracy has been going on over here. We The People vs. Halliburton, in the largest sense.
You dislodge that Monstrous Machine, you done something for the People. I don’t care if it’s just the GOP wanting to ever get elected again. Doesn’t matter. That’s the democratic process, that’s life.
But the Halliburton-Corporate Profit-Amoral-Death-Machine belongs to no process but to promote itself and its own—that’s what makes it amoral, it has no business running the White House (course in this case someone had to) and, well, I am pretty much too stunned to know sensibly what to say.
It was already like Christmas to read about Rove’s demotion.
Oh are Happy Days are Here Again?

Thanks to Terry Frazier’s good eye, for the list on Security from which the following wondrous facts were drawn:
More people are killed every year by pigs than by sharks, which shows you how good we are at evaluating risk.
(Now reread the post title. Think “Jaws.” I crack myself up.) Read the rest of this entry »
