I’m sorry, but did he roll up his shirtsleeves in Pennsylvania? Not that I saw. This isn’t rocket science or Kremninolgy, it’s just watching the signs. Semiotics are all around us, in fact we are bombarded, inundated with fucking signs. The signaling of meaning, which, I realize, has been co-opted by advertising. When did that happen? My mind is a blank. But god I love the ads in old National Geographics from the Twenties. When advertisers certainly tried to persuade you—I love the doctor with the thingey on his head they used to wear, promoting the health-giving benefits of smoking. So relaxing. But at least it was, like, out front, you know?

You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows. I would just advise Republican obstructors of all-things-Obama, fear, fear those shirt sleeves.

§ One Response to “St. Louis”

  • Nance says:

I want so much for this President to succeed; when he makes speeches or holds Town Halls, I find myself urging him on by tightening my stomach muscles! We all need him to succeed…perhaps, especially those of us who don’t recognize that fact, yet.

Speaking of old advertising campaigns, I got hooked on “Mad Men” on DVD last fall. I missed the whole series on television, but I watched the first episode on the recommendation of a friend and wound up watching all three seasons back-to-back on DVD…somewhat sheepishly, because the show was a “soap” at heart. Strangest sense of nostalgia mixed with outrage. Now, gimme the cleverness of Old Spice Man-Mercials on YouTube!
