Glenn Greenwald – Salon.com But shouldn’t there be some standards governing what gets reported and what is held back? Particularly in a case like this— which, for obvious reasons, has the potential to be quite inflammatory on a number of levels — having the major media “report” completely false assertions as fact can be quite harmful.
Glenn, Glenn, Glenn. Haven’t we had this talk before? That horse has left the barn. Walter Cronkite is dead. There’s no honor among thieves. Remember?
Expect, instead, that this sort of thing will be racheted up as the country goes more and more numb under the onslaught of information, which makes titillation (is this a poem?) all that more difficult. And I don’t need to tell you that titillate they must. Welcome to the internet, where, finally, there is no lowest common denominator because, hey, filth and slime not to mention patently false information — have you noticed how False doesn’t seem to matter anymore? The lather-whipping far right only does to themselves what has been done to them, taught by the media, who must be fuckin’ desperate for viewers about now. Fox isn’t another point of view, it’s simply a business that knows how to cash in — I was sorry to see the Obama administration treat it as anything else.
Hell, all the news stations are, it’s just that an educated person can stomach the other networks a bit better. But let us not lose sight. All the media are just various tentacles of the corporation, with the exception of various forms of the free press such as linger on the Internet. Truthout, TomDispatch, who am I forgetting … many.
You’re right. I suppose. There should be “some standards.” But who would would apply them? Elvis left that particular building a long time ago.

Walter Cronkite is dead? Buzzkill.
Very well said. And welcome to Elderbloggers.
Thank you. And I’m an elderblogger now? You’re sure? That would mean … the Sixties are over … I knew there was some reason for the wrinkles on my neck.
Yep, you’re an elderblogger, or Ronni Bennett is older than she thinks. Congratulations. It’s why I’m here.
And, since I am, I’m glad you mentioned it. I watched (cringed at) the news tonight…on several channels, actually…in search of news. I saw two adorable female anchors flirting with each other over how godawful Sarah is; a three-way split screen with the lefties on the left, the centrists in the middle, etc., culminating in a shouting match between R and L, while C looked tolerant; and, Wolf Blitzer standing in for Larry King, which is not news no matter who stands in. I hurt my thumb scrolling past Fox News about fifteen times trying to find the jewels mentioned above. I know we can’t have Uncle Walter back, but my money’s going out tomorrow to the closest National Public Television station to have a news program.
