Lord Won’t You Buy Me

mercedes-benzFrom America the Great … Police State. Gore Vidal. A more simple, brilliant summing up I cannot imagine.

So let me mention the real issue. The real issue is class. We have the greatest divide between the very rich and the very poor of any country on Earth, surpassing even France. And this division gets wider and wider as financial disasters overwhelm us. We were already in pretty bad shape before things began to fall apart a year or two ago. We must acknowledge that our character, never much good in these matters, is now reprehensible, Read the rest of this entry »

WaPo: Saad bin Laden, 27, an al-Qaeda member who has been linked to terrorist bombings in Saudi Arabia, is believed to have been among the victims of a series of strikes by unmanned CIA Predator aircraft in the past few months, the officials said. If confirmed, he would be the closest relative to bin Laden killed by U.S. forces since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington.

There are some indications that he may be dead, but it’s not 100 percent certain.

Aw, what a pity. Read the rest of this entry »

Just For A Fucking Minute …

danI knew was no ordinary FakeSteve (I will restore your sense of childlike wonder. There is nothing you can do to stop me) post when I came upon this striking triad of sentences.

Well, this is the world we are living in. These are the people we are dealing with. This is how we have to deal with them.

Suddenly Dan began to write, the post took off somewhere new, combining the virtual with the real in a manner that took my breath away, and that of any other reader with a grain of sense. Read the rest of this entry »

The Lean

leanI can’t think where—Slate, perhaps—and Google can’t help me now, it’s all about death—but I came across some interesting observations about Michael Jackson‘s (gorgeous, gob-smack-stunning) attire.

One, his predilection for military garb (you ain’t never seen an army sequined like that) and its connection,  homage almost, to the military-like precision with which those little boys were taught to perform, and what it must have been like, his father drilling it into them, Michael wanting to play. One Split Second Before Sex

rabbit blog:
You’re craving that one split second BEFORE you fuck the guy, and nothing more. Most of us are hung up on that moment, thanks to being flooded with its supreme significance through every minute of our waking hours on earth.

Well, yes  … it represents everything. The moment at birth when your gaze locks onto your mother. Which must be about the happiest moment in life. Depressing thought—but I saw it, I witnessed my grandson being born and taking a deep breath and starting to cry. Someone must have quickly checked him out—I was just impressed by the pop-up sponge quality of the whole thing—and he was placed upon his mother’s breast. Slowly, as his eyes realized they had a gaze, very slowly, his eyes turned upward toward her face—how did he know to do that? Read the rest of this entry »

This Moon?

full_moonWe landed? One giant step? Oh, I believe it … I just don’t personally recall it.  The memory of that historic day somewhat blurred by the fact that—this was 1969, right?—we were was stoned out of our gourds.

July 20. Yup, that would have been about right. Our neighborhood in Berkeley—with the exception of straight folk, of course, and there were a few—had turned into a commune. Mostly taking place in Joyce’s back yard, because Joyce had the space,  Joyce shared her house … and Joyce owned the pressure cooker.
